PTI’s members did not verify resignations: NA speaker

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday clarified that after resignations by Pakistan Tehreek -e-Insaf (PTI) members, he had sent notices for appearing in person and verifying resignations as defined in rules of business and conduct of the House.

Giving the ruling in response to the points raised by MQM leader Farooq Sattar, he said that it was the responsibility of the speaker to verify the resignation of any member under the rules and apex court verdict.

The speaker cited Supreme Court’s decision, Article 64 of the Constitution and various rules and conduct of the Assembly including Rules 25 and 43. He said that following the rules, the resignation tendered by Makhdoom Javeed Hashmi was accepted when he confirmed this while Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Quershi did not confirm his resignation despite making speech on the floor of the House.

Regarding 40-day continuous absence of PTI members from the House, Sadiq said that he had informed the House but none of the party moved motion against PTI members absence.
