The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered to produce eight people who are detained in illegal custody of police in the Youhanabad lynching case, before the court on April 8.
During the hearing, petitioners counsel said that police had illegally detained dozens of Christian people therefore they should be released from the police custody.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Investigation Wing stated in his written reply that 11 of the 14 arrested suspects had been released already whereas there are reports about one suspect, Sohail Johnson, had fled abroad. However, no details have been found regarding two more suspects, he said.
The court dismissed the reply of SSP investigation and ordered to produce the suspects before the court.
69 ARRESTED IN YOUHANABAD LYNCHING, ARSON ATTACKS CASE
Meanwhile, the police on Monday arrested 69 suspects for their alleged involvement in vandalism and incitement to violence that resulted in the lynching of two innocent men after twin suicide attacks struck Youhanabad last month.
Hafiz Naeem and Babar Noman were picked up by an angry mob following suicide attacks on the Roman Catholic Church and Christ Church last month. They were badly beaten and then burned to death in the broad daylight and in the presence of police.
Police said 69 suspects have been arrested, 22 of whom are accused of involvement in the lynching of the two men.
Police said that more arrests would be made after identifying the culprits through video and photos of the incident. The suspects will further be sent for identification parade in jail, they said.
