The forming of a judicial commission to investigate electoral irregularities and alleged rigging is a “pointless exercise”, said Former Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir on Monday.
“The judicial commission cannot take the place of an election tribunal. Forming a judicial commission on electoral irregularities is a pointless exercise,” she explained.
She said that election tribunals could be approached to investigate electoral rigging.
Referring to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, she remarked that one party was trying to hide from the issue of electoral rigging, while the other was trying to run away from it.
Imran Khan was unable to provide evidence of rigging to the tribunals, what proof will he give to the judicial commission, she said.
She asked if the commission would hold any value for the common man of Pakistan.
