Heavy quantity of stored wheat badly affected

A big quantity of last year’s stored wheat worth Rs 5 million was badly affected at the official godown of the food department on Railway Road Pasrur city as whole of the said godown inundated due to sewerage and rainwater.

According to the details, the food department had stored a bulk of wheat yield (thousands of mounds) at its official godown located along Pasrur city’s congested Railway Road in 2014. The godown was inundated due to rainy and sewerage water which remained inundated for several days, which left ill smell and created suffocation. The local people informed the local officials of food department, who reached there and came to know about the big wastage of wheat yield stored there. The officials confirmed that the worth of the wasted wheat was Rs 5 million.

When contacted, District Food Controller (DFC) Sialkot Muhammad Rohail Butt told that probe has been ordered in this matter, however the inundated official godowns have been vacated after removing the damaged wheat from there.
