A need for change

It is indeed disillusioning to see the perverted thinking, which is gradually prevailing widely in our society. The people are seen to be characterized with double standards, elements of fabrication as well as hypocrisy in moving across multiple platforms.

Considering specifically the platforms of career development such as corporate sector, educational institutes, IT based software houses, medical institutes, social welfare and other non-profit organizations etc; it is plausible to state that these are increasingly becoming places of ostentation. The emphasis of the females in particular is growing towards flaunting and showing off their clothing and other fashion accessories. Though they fulfill their work responsibilities efficiently but they seem to be investing a lot of time, money and effort in creating flamboyant, vibrant and lucid environment by putting on premium designer bands and accessories. There appears to be intense competition amongst women with regard to attire and their overall demeanor. Each endeavors to outshine others with regard to apparel and other fashion accessories. The attire and related accessories hold higher significance for them than their work responsibilities.

In addition, there appears to be two extremes associated with the way women dress up in the platforms of career development. Some women tend to dress in an austere manner and adhere to the religious principles with regard to their attire and demeanor. They value modesty and bashfulness more than flaunting off their attire. Such women consider pleasing the Creator; Allah more than pleasing the creation; peers at workplace. Though such women are criticized and scorned by their fellow colleagues but still they remain steadfast in adhering to their religious values by dressing up modestly in the public places. The transitory nature of this world is well recognized by such women. They consider the worldly opulence and flamboyance as merely temporary, and hence majorly concentrate on rendering their work responsibilities as a foremost priority.

On the other side of the spectrum, there are women who consider flamboyance inevitable while dressing up routinely at the workplaces.

It is imperative to understand that the platforms of career development should be deemed as avenues of rendering the services aligned with the job description of the employees. The emphasis of the employees should be on fulfillment of their work responsibilities with integrity and perseverance. The focus on flaunting and showing off the attire, clothing brands and accessories should be mitigated to minimum especially for the females. Living in an Islamic Republic, it should be borne in mind that the glitz and glamour and ostentation of attire’s brand and accessories is of meaningless value while working at different institutes. Furthermore, it is necessary for the heads of institutes to inculcate an organizational culture, which focuses on dressing modestly and decently in congruence with the religious values. They should continuously emphasize upon their employees that rendering the work responsibilities with determination holds paramount importance than showing off brands and accessories at workplaces.
