President Mamnoon Hussain has underlined the need for enhanced allocations for the health and education sectors to improve the living standards of the people.
Addressing an international conference on cardiovascular diseases in Rawalpindi on Saturday, he said the government has initiated steps to improve health services.
Mamnoon Hussain pointed out that cardiac diseases are the leading cause of death in Pakistan and the situation calls for urgent intervention from key stakeholders.
He said that a modern life style has exposed people to high risks patterns and we need to protect the future generation from cardiac diseases by promoting healthy living styles. He said the cardiac and other non-communicable diseases could be prevented through effective awareness campaigns and preventive measures.
The President said it has been made mandatory on the cigarette producers to show pictorial warning on packaging. He said the step, which has been appreciated by World Health Organization will contribute immensely to efforts for dissuading youth from harmful habit of smoking.
On this occasion, the President appreciated the services of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and announced a grant of five million rupees for it.
