All seven people incriminated in a case cursorily lodged last night for assaulting an election camp of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Karimabad area of Karachi late Friday, have been released midnight, local media reported on Sunday.
All anti-terrorism clauses incorporated in the FIR have been withdrawn after the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) parliamentarians vouched for them.
It should be mentioned here that police lodged an FIR against seven MQM workers for their involvement in Karimabad hassle with anti-terrorism clauses invoked in the case. However, sources said all arrested people were set free on personal surety of MQM MNAs.
The NA-246 seat vacated by MQM’s Nabeel Gabol is being vied by PTI’s Imran Ismail and MQM’s Kanwar Naveed. The electioneering is in full swing in the constituency; however, the tug-of-war between the two rival parties got ugly late Friday when PTI’s flag was set ablaze and their camp was disrupted by a group of people believed to be MQM’s workers.
Imran Ismail, the PTI candidate, managed to make a clean exit after some rioters carrying MQM flags showed up at the camp and ran amok.
