Nisar says ECP should summon Rangers for peaceful NA-246 by-poll

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said that the Election Commission should summon Rangers for ensuring peaceful by-elections in NA-246 constituency of Karachi.

A spokesman of the Interior Ministry said that Nisar has directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that that all the contesting parties should be free to run the election campaign. He warned that no slackness would be tolerated in this regard.

The interior minister expressed his concern over the way the PTI leaders and workers and supporter are being treated by a political party and termed it contrary to the democratic norms.

  1. Considering that law and order is a provincial subject, the statement by Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisr Ali Khan is a blatant interference in the affairs of Sindh province.

And even though the Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad Khan had got both parties to agree to a code of conduct in the presence of Police chief, Imran Khan kept up his attack on the other party's chief, which was a flagrant violation of the code of conduct.

Unfortunately, Imran Khan thinks very highly of himself and feels that everyone should obey him, taking his wishes as their comand while he does not have any obligation to honour the code of conduct agreed by his own part, and he is free to act in a completely unrestrained manner. And here is his buddy, Chaudhry Nisar who has come to his aid and wants state machinery to smooth things up for his friend. He has forgotten the civil disobedience movement announced by Imran Khan during dharna days, and even the event when Imran Khan used force to free some of his party members who had been arrested by the law enforcers.

And Chaudhry Nisar shouldshould know better than makjubg one-sided proclamations, holding guilty one party guilty of breaching the democratic norms while ignoring the misconduct of the other. And in a state where the basic law and order is not maintained, and the state machinery is used with impunity at the whims and fancies of officials, like in Model Town and other incidents, talks of democratic norms sounds a bit out of place.
