Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to secretary commerce, secretary cabinet division, interior secretary, secretary science and information in the case of import of forbidden food items despite ban and sought reply from them within two weeks.

A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Amir Farooq took up for hearing petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer, and President Human Rights Welfare Trust, Kokab Iqbal, against import of forbidden eatables Wednesday.

He told the court that about 17 forbidden food items including chips lays, chicken, butter and other goods are being imported in Pakistan. The parliamentary secretary of National Assembly standing committee has also informed parliament that there are 17 forbidden food items being imported in Pakistan but no steps have been taken by the authorities concerned for the suspension of import of these forbidden eatables.
