Sindh’s man named, Dar seeks president’s nod for 9th NFC

With the Sindh government having nominated Saleem Mandviwala as its member, Federal Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar has sent a proposal to President Mamnoon Hussain through Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for the constitution of 9th National Finance Commission (NFC).

The other provinces had already nominated their members two months ago while Sindh was lagging behind. Besides Finance Minister Dar and four provincial finance ministers, other members of the commission include Ayesha Ghous Pasha from Punjab, Prof M Ibrahim Khan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Qaisar Bangali from Balochistan.

The constitution of the NFC has been proposed according to the provisions of Constitution’s Article 160 which states, “The president shall constitute a National Finance Commission consisting of the minister of finance of the federal government, the ministers of finance of the provincial governments, and such other persons as may be appointed by the president after consultation with the governors of the provinces.”

The first meeting of the commission will be held as soon as its constitution is approved by the president.
