PPF chair turns the cheek to Rs40m fraud

Orders from the former state minister for postal services, Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, for action against the officers of Pakistan Postal Foundation (PPF) have been thrown out by the PPF chair, despite the alleged amount running into millions of rupees.

Directives were issued in a detailed letter addressed to the secretary communication (Chairman PPF) on December 24, 2014 that PPF funds have declined by Rs 40 million due to alleged involvement of former managing director Ejaz Durrani and Ejaz Minhas in financial malpractices and ill-conceived planning.

The letter pointed out that 80 per cent of the people appointed were favourites who were hired unnecessarily, and at higher salaries than the prescribed pay scales. General Manager Col (Retd) Iftikhar was appointed against a salary of Rs60,000 per month and 100-litre petrol while GM Foundation was being paid salary Rs35,000 per month

Likewise Rs6 million were spent on the repair and renovation of the foundation building without the approval of the DG PPF.

MD Ejaz Minhas paid the GP fund to the tune of Rs231,320 out of the Foundation fund instead of making payment out of his own pocket. He also purchased furniture for the office costing more than Rs500,000 from a person of his native village despite the fact that PPF jointly own a dreamland furniture room.

The letter said that no action  has been taken against the officers found involved in massive financial irregularities despite lapse of three months.
