The registration of seminaries is continuing in the province under Social Security Act and 13,729 seminaries have so far been registered through Punjab Information Technology Board Geo-tagging, said Punjab Home Minister Colonel (r) Shuja Khanzada while talking to journalists outside Punjab Assembly on Wednesday.
The home minister said that recommendations have been formulated for bringing all seminaries under the administrative control of the Education Department and ensuring implementation of SOPs of the government with regard to their educational activities.
The minister further said that only a few seminaries are involved in illegal activities and evidence is being collected against them for initiating action. He said that some NGOs and people of universities are also engaged in unlawful activities. He said that Pakistan is facing more threats internally than externally and there is a need for unity to counter these challenges.
Khanzada further said that there are 498 such foreign students in Punjab whose visas have expired and funds have been provided to send them back to their countries.
