Sensational revelations are expected from an officer of the Interior Ministry who has been remanded to FIA for his involvement in the illegal extradition of nine Pakistani prisoners from Thailand who were involved in Narcotics smuggling and other serious crimes.
The authorities are expecting that the Section Officer Iftikhar Ahmad would disclose the names of six other officers involved in the racket.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had ordered an inquiry into the deportation of the nine Pakistanis from Thailand without a request by Pakistan government when the matter came to his notice. An initial report of the inquiry has already been submitted to the minister.
The FIA got the two-day remand of the section officer by presenting him in the court of civil judge Islamabad on Sunday. The Section officer had issued a letter about the handing over of the nine Pakistani citizens, who were sentenced between 30 to 50 years of jail in Thailand without approval of the interior minister or secretary.
On the orders of the interior minister, names of 44 such convicts have been placed on the ECL.
As many as 35 of such convicts were extradited to Pakistan during the tenure of the previous government. Sources said that action is expected against six officers of the Pakistani Embassy in Thailand and the interior ministry for their role in the extradition. They said if the section officer disclosed the names of officers involved during the interrogation, they would also be involved in the investigation and arrested on the basis of proofs.
