The leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Thursday condemned the party’s “media trial” by a section of the media.

“Media trial of MQM and Altaf Hussain is being conducted by some media houses. Altaf Hussain dwells in hearts of people of Karachi. Those who call his supporters dead bodies should see this gathering,” MQM’s Haider Abbas Rizvi said while addressing a large public meeting.

The MQM supporters, who took to streets in protest against the party’s ‘media trial’, were also addressed by Farooq Sattar and other MQM leaders who vehemently condemned ‘yellow journalism’.

Earlier in the day, MQM MNAs walked out of National Assembly to record their protest against PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s remarks.

On Wednesday, Imran Khan launched tirade against MQM chief Altaf Hussain, saying the latter’s day is near. “Like every Pharaoh, Altaf Hussain’s time has come too,” Imran Khan said while addressing a rally in Mirpur city of Azad Kashmir.

He also announced to hold a large public gathering in Karachi where his party is contesting by-elections on National Assembly constituency NA-246 (Azizabad) that is considered a stronghold of MQM.

Speaking to media persons outside the Parliament, MQM’s senior leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, lashed out at Khan for his tirade against Altaf Hussain.

“Imran Khan! This is not your ‘new Pakistan’. You want to rule the country holding people hostage. Khan sahib! If you love to do politics in Karachi, you are welcome, contest elections, even if under army’s supervision, but if you chose backdoors it will be a big misfortune for Pakistan,” the MQM leader said.

He said ‘inappropriate’ language against Altaf Hussain would not be accepted, claiming that people of Karachi would not vote in favour of Imran Khan.
