LAHORE:

The production of 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity from solar resources will be available for consumers in April.

Earlier, the chief minister of Punjab announced the 100MW generation from indigenous resources would be added to the grid till the end of December 2014.

Scheduled for the first quarter of 2014, the project, at a total cost of $131 million, got delayed due to a Chinese firm failing to fulfill criteria during the due-diligence process carried out by the Punjab government, an official of the energy department told media sources.

The Punjab government announced the establishment of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park over an area of 5,000 acres in the Cholistan Development Authority in Bahawalpur. The company was registered under the company act with the SECP. In October 2013, Najam Ahmad Shah was posted as the CEO of Quaid-e-Azam Solar Power Company on a deputation basis.

  1. I proposed a better solution which could add up to 7500 MW to national grid by government backed grid-connected solar installation loans last year with eventual 0 cost to the government, sent it out directly to the prime minister but nobody paid any attention to it. In my understanding these politicians only take up those projects where they have potential to get new business. Nobody is interested in benefiting the country or its people.

  2. Hi in Germany we close fossil fuel based power plants, because they can’t compete with bio power like Sun and wind and Biogas. Pakistan do have much more potential in Sun Wind and Biogas compared to Germany but politicans in Pakistan don’t care for theier country they do use political Power for theier on benefit. That is the main reason WHO Pakistan is 3 rd World country. Honest Politicans are a rare race in Pakistan.
