The sit-in by citizens, which began Tuesday in front of grid station under the banner of Shehri Action Committee (SAC), continued here on Wednesday against worst electricity load shedding of 16 hours that defies six-eight hours as announcement by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
SAC consists of over 15 political and non-political parties, including literary, social welfare, trade and labour organizations, but excludes ruling PPP which has tormented citizens. The citizens also kept their shutters down on second consecutive day and observed a complete strike in the whole town. They came out of their homes to protest against what they called highhandedness by SEPCO authorities with citizens.
All shops, bazaars, and markets remained totally shut including medical stores and private clinics of medical practitioners. Angry protesters held demonstrations at various places in the town and chanted slogans. A poisonous snake came out from a nearby agricultural field last night where 10 camp has been erected but fortunately, the protesters killed it in a bottle.
Tight security arrangements have been made in the town and several police vans remain deployed in & around the grid station. SAC has announced that they will hold a meeting this evening to further devise line of action.
SAC President Ghulam Hyder Narejo said that they will threadbare discuss whether to observe strike on Thursday, third day. “If their demands are not accepted, then the citizens will observe four-hour strike daily. If the government failed to accept their justified demands, they will block all roads on April 3 by staging massive sit-ins on all routes leading to Garhi Khuda Bux.
PPP Senator Islamuddin Shaikh has also condemned the prolonged power outages in Naundero, and said, “This town is their political hub and the treatment meted out with this the citizens will be raised in the Senate.”
