Let the police follow the law, PTI tells govt

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Information Shireen Mazari has demanded that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government allow the police force of Islamabad and Punjab to function according to the law.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, she said that the PML-N government should not attempt to make the police force a “Gullu Butt force”.

Mazari said that the government’s plan to punish former Islamabad SSP (Operations) Mohammad Ali Nekokara, who refused to follow unlawful directions of the federal government, was a shameful reflection of the monarchic state of mind of Sharifs.

“They are mistaken that the police owe loyalty to the state and not to individuals and that Pakistan is not the personal fiefdom of anyone family,” she said.

Mazari said that the PTI Chief Imran Khan has continuously pointed out how people have lost faith in the police because of its politicization and questionable methods of induction.

“In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the police have totally been depoliticised and recruitments are made through NTS and not on the basis of political influence,” she said, asking the government to respect the rule of law.

She also said that the dismissal of SSP Nekokara would be a great travesty of justice.
