A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench headed by Justice Anwar Zahir Jamali Tuesday disposed of suo motu notice on lynching of Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan, directing the trial court to complete case hearing speedily and bring the perpetrators to justice as per law.

“Providing protection to minorities is legal and constitutional obligation of the government. Police should take steps to prevent such incidents and bring those found responsible to justice,” the court remarked.

During the hearing, the Punjab additional advocate general (AAG) presented the report on behalf of Punjab inspector general (IG), claiming that all the culprits had been arrested, including 25 people who could not be arrested earlier.

“Foolproof security has been provided to the witnesses while the matter is pending hearing in trial court. Therefore, this case be disposed of. Court is assured that all the perpetrators will be proceeded against in this case,” he said.

The court while disposing of the case directed the subordinate court that the case be disposed of as soon as possible and its report be sent to the SC registrar.
