Says Karachi Operation valid, initiated on demands of MQM, urges Imran Khan to return to assembly

Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khurshid Shah has claimed that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was given advantage by delaying the execution of Saulat Mirza whereas the operation in Karachi was valid and carried out on the demand of MQM.

Addressing a press conference along with PPP Punjab President Mian Manzoor Wattoo and others, Shah said the release of video of Saulat Mirza from the death cell and resultant delay in his execution has raised suspicions over the whole case.

He was of the view that the temporary halt in execution of Saulat Mirza had benefitted MQM. Shah, however, added that the sentence given to Mirza should be implemented.

The opposition leader said it would not be in the interest of the country to declare MQM as a terrorist organisation and efforts should be made to keep it in the political mainstream. He said Altaf Hussain’s approach not to clash with state institutions is positive and in the interest of the country.

He also backed the Rangers operation in Karachi. Operation against criminals should continue indiscriminately. “Let’s not forget that the operation in Karachi was launched on demand of the MQM,” he mentioned. He said that operation against terrorists, target killers, extortions and other criminals is being carried out indiscriminately and the PPP would fully support it.

The PPP leader said that Uzair Baloch, a notorious gangster, is trying to defame the party. He questioned how Uzair Baloch was able to give a statement when he was under custody. He reiterated that the solution to political conflicts lies in dialogue. Today, the stance of the PPP has proved true, he added.

He stated that most of the terrorists killed in Lyari were Taliban. He said during Lyari operation 60 per cent PPP workers, 8 per cent MQM and five percent other party’s workers were killed but they did not raise hue and cry.

Furthermore, the PPP leader said that government has agreed on making a judicial commission therefore Imran Khan should return to the parliament, as all matters can be resolved only through negotiations.

The opposition leader warned that any step by Imran Khan to launch Islamabad-like dharna could be damaging for the country. He bragged that the PPP played a key role in reconciliations between the government and PTI.

“Judicial commission is going to be formed, hence PTI should now come to the assemblies,” he demanded.

Shah said there has been significant improvement in law and order situation in the interior of Sindh. He said they fully support the operation by Rangers and other law enforcement agencies and it should continue till complete restoration of peace. He said any conspiracy against Sindh government would a conspiracy against the State of Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif.
