President to inaugurate APPU-EC meeting on Tuesday

A five-day “Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council” (APPU-EC) meeting will start at SerenaHotel, Islamabad from March 24, 2015.

President Mamnoon Hussain will be the chief guest at the inauguration and a Postal Ticket will also be unveiled on the occasion, says a press release here Sunday.

Delegates from 32 countries of Asia-Pacific working for a common concern will participate in the Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council (APPU-EC) meeting. It is pertinent to mention here that Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council meeting is being held for the first time in Pakistan.

According to spokesperson for the Pakistan Post, the purpose of the “Asian-Pacific Postal Union Executive Council” meeting is to enhance relationship among the member countries and encourage collaboration in the field of postal services.

The countries whose delegates will participate in the APPU-EC meeting include: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Fiji, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran,  Korea, Lao People’s Dem. Rep., Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal , New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Independent State of Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga (including Niuafo’ou), Vanuatu, Vietnam and others.

The Executive Council (EC) comprises all the member-countries of the Union with a quorum of the majority.

In order to ensure the continuity of work the Executive Council meets every year. The last APPU-EC meeting held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in September 2014.
