Who is in charge?

The PM went to Karachi with great fanfare to lead the operation to rid Karachi of criminal elements but returned after two days handing over the reins to the man of all seasons i.e., everyone’s favourite uncle. Remember how he vanished from Karachi on May 12, 2007, when ordered by the MQM governor, leaving Karachi at the mercy of the governor’s henchmen and his many containers.

The PM of course did not even make sure that no transfers would be made in Karachi police without his permission, or at least without his knowledge. Sure enough the only police officer who was making any headway against the criminals was removed from his post.

Then we were treated to the humiliating spectacle of a federal minister pleading on behalf of the PM ‘Please don’t transfer him, he’s doing a good job, the PM wants him to stay’ while Sharjeel Memon shut him up with “The Centre should stop interfering with the Sindh government.”

Who is in charge of the operation now, Sharjeel Memon or the PM?

Now that an opportunity had been offered to the PM to redeem himself by asking some awkward questions from MQM regarding the WMDs recovered from ‘Nine Zero’, what does he do? He sets up a committee and the target killers of Karachi can go on sleeping peacefully, but not their targets.
