The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), as part of its measures to facilitate disabled citizens, has provided educational and vocational training to 2125 in-service officials during last two years.
Of the total, 1084 in-service persons were trained in National Institute of Special Education who were associated with Education and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities while 1068 were trained for income generation and community services at Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of Disabled Persons (VREDP), Islamabad.
Sources at CADD while enumerating the steps taken during last two years on Friday said, besides, 1,576 children with all four types of disabilities i.e. Physically, Visually, Intellectually and Hearing Impairment were given medical rehabilitation, educational and training facilities.
The sources said that during the period, the Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE) facilitated the process of signing and ratification of United Nation Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and now working for implementation and legislation of the Convention.
Similarly, they said International Labour Organization (ILO) and Directorate General of Special Education completed Quantitative Survey of Persons with Disabilities and their needs for Vocational Rehabilitation in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
They said to create awareness at all levels about disability issues, material for all disabilities has been prepared while 17 video clips related to prevention, social psychological and economical issues prepared with cooperation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and submitted to Ministry of Information.
The sources said under directives of President, DGSE is establishing Resources Centre for Autistic Children in Islamabad while National Library and Resource Centre, Islamabad established a Mobile Library for provision of library services for disabled persons at their organisation level.
