RPP cases: NAB chairman reviews progress in recovery

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry was briefed Monday on the current status of the rental power plants (RPPs), especially recovery made in RPPs and Modaraba/Musharaka cases.

Chaudhry visited the NAB Rawalpindi and Islamabad Bureau to review the performance of the NAB Regional Bureau. The NAB Rawalpindi and Islamabad director general, along with his team, briefed the NAB chairman. He also highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the NAB Rawalpindi and Islamabad Bureau.

The NAB chairman said the NAB Rawalpindi and Islamabad Bureau was dealing with important cases, and played a prominent role in contributing towards the overall performance of the bureau.

Chaudhry was informed that NAB Rawalpindi was dealing with 12 RPP cases and had filed five references in different accountability courts.

The main accused in these references are former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, former finance minister Shaukat Tareen, former water and power secretary Ismail Qureshi, former PEPCO secretary Shahid Rafi and former PEPCO MD Tahir Basharat Cheema.

The regional bureau is investigating 96 cases of multibillion Modaraba/Musharaka scam. Eight cases are at the reference stage, 14 are under investigation, five are at the inquiry stage, two are at the complaint verification stage and 67 cases are on the complaint stage.
