Rabbani asks parties to stand united against terrorism

Acting President Mian Raza Rabbani on Sunday urged the political parties to forge unity in their ranks and help eliminate the scourge of terrorism from the country.

The country was passing through a most serious and critical situation threatening its stability which demanded all politicians, political parties and even political groups to set aside their differences and join hands to counter the same, he added.

Mian Raza Rabbani was talking to media after offering his prayers and laying a floral wreath at the Mazar of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Replying to a question, he said steps were being taken to address the challenges ought to be within the orbit of law and in accordance with the constitutional rules and regulations.

Reiterating his commitment to fulfil public aspirations and also meet expectations of the masses as senate chairman, he said he was fully alive to the problems faced by the people and would perform his responsibility without any distinction.

The politicians, he said, were answerable to the masses, committed to serve them and also protect their interest. In context of Karachi, he said, terrorism along with law and order situation were the major issues. Improved law and order situation in any part of country, including that of the metropolis, was prerequisite for restoring and expediting economic activities leading towards social and political stability.

Regarding FATA, Raza Rabbani said its inhabitants also needed to be included in the political process and the national election commission was expected to ensure adequate measures for early polls and proper representation of FATA people in the decision making bodies.

The acting president was accompanied by Senator Saeed Ghani and other senior leaders of PPP.
