The federal government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has chalked out a comprehensive plan to overcome energy crisis in the country.
The government has been striving hard to rid the nation of load-shedding on permanent basis and several hydel, solar and wind energy projects have been launched, sources in the ministry of water and power told APP.
Moreover, special attention is being paid on controlling power theft and replacement of old and obsolete power transmission lines. They said all resources were being utilised for achieving self-sufficiency in the power sector to end load shedding. The sources informed that the government was attaching top priority to hydel and coal projects, however, US$ 13 billion would be spent on generation of power from other resources.
They said 3,600 megawatt additional power would be produced with the import of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) from Qatar. They also said 1320 megawatt electricity would be added to the national grid with completion of two power projects in Jamshoro. The prime minister has issued directives for completion of these projects by first quarter of 2018.
