Election fever at full swing in NA-137

Election fever is in full swing in NA-137, Nankana Sahib, as by-elections in the constituency will be held today. The seat was vacated after the demise of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) National Assembly Member (MNA) Rai Mansab Ali Khan. Ten candidates are going to contest the election.

PML-N has awarded the ticket to Rai Mansab Ali Khan’s daughter Dr Sahzra Mansab. Independent candidate Brigadier (r) Ijaz Shah enjoys the support of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) while Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has awarded the ticket to Shahjehan Bhatti.

Total registered voters in this constituency are 287,719 and 256 polling stations have been set up for them. Voting will start at 8 am and will continue till 5 in the evening without any break. As many as 48 polling stations have been declared as sensitive due to threat of violence while 1,129 police officials will be posted to deal with any unwanted situation.
