Police register over 50 cases against kite sellers, flyers, two clerics booked for violating ban on loudspeakers use, 22 outlaws arrested in capital, four suspected robbers held in Pindi, ANF foils drugs smuggling bid

As citizens of Rawalpindi enjoyed the Basant despite a ban on Saturday, a number of outlaws were arrested by the police of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in various operations across the twin cities on Saturday, including action against clerics violating ban on use of loudspeakers, while the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) continued to crackdown on drugs smugglers.

The police have registered more than 50 cases against kite sellers and flyers to avoid any further mishap in the metropolis.

Earlier, a boy was killed and over 100 people were injured in incidents involving kite flying as the festival of Basant took its toll. The boy in question suffered a fatal accident when he fell off the roof chasing kites.

Injuries were suffered by over a hundred people who came in contact with chemical threads used in kite flying. Electric transformers in some areas of Rawalpindi also suffered the consequences of illegal kite flying.

The citizens of Rawalpindi enjoyed Basant as the day saw the festivity in full swing throughout the city. People indulged in kite flying on Thursday night and the festivity continued to peak till Friday night.

The Lahore High Court (SHC) and Punjab government’s ban on kite flying was disregarded by the local population.

Throughout the day police was not effective in enforcing the ban of kite flying though as evening approached, it arrested some of the perpetrators to offer mere lip service to the court order.

IMAMS FEEL THE HEAT:

The Rawalpindi Police have registered cases against two Imams (religious leaders) for violating the ban on the use of loudspeakers.

According to a police spokesman, the Mandra Police registered a case against Khateeb Jamia Masjid Sahang Hafiz Muhammad Taseer while Rawat Police booked Jamia Masjid Ghosia Imam Hafiz Muhammad Ijaz for violating the ban on use of loudspeakers.

The spokesman said the cases are being registered against the rules violators under Punjab Sound System (Regulation) Ordinance 2015.

CAPITAL COPS ON DUTY:

In the meanwhile, the Islamabad Police arrested 22 outlaws from various areas of the city besides recovering, narcotics, 11 liquor bottles, weapons and stolen valuables from their possession, a police spokesman said.

According to details, Shahzad Town Police arrested two men, Alamgheer and Muhammad Adnan, and seized snatched mobile phones from their possession.

The Secretariat Police arrested three men, Mukhtar Ahmed, Habibur Rehman and Touseef Ahmed, and seized stolen valuable from their possession.

The Aabpara Police arrested a bootlegger and seized one liquor bottle from him.

The Ramanna Police arrested a bootlegger, Irshad, and seized 10 liquor bottles from him.

The Sabzi Mandi Police arrested five accused, including Jawad Ali, Addil Ali, Umer Zaman and Fahad, and seized three 30-bore illicit pistols along with ammunition from their possession.

Cases have been registered against the nabbed persons and further investigation is underway from them.

Furthermore, police teams arrested 10 professional alms-seekers from various areas of the city. Islamabad SSP has appreciated this overall performance and directed all police officials to accelerate their efforts to curb activities of anti-social elements.

ROBBERS NABBED:

Moreover, in a raid at Eidgah Graveyard area, the police arrested four suspected dacoits and recovered weapons from their possession here on Saturday.

According to the police, Banni Police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in Eidgah Graveyard area and arrested four dacoits, Rab Nawaz, Shahzad, Ayub Khan and Siraj, who were allegedly hatching a plan to commit a robbery.

The police also seized three 30-bore handguns with 20 rounds and other items from their possession. Further investigations are underway.

SMUGGLING BID FOILED:

Furthermore, Anti-Narcotic force (ANF) foiled a plan to smuggle drugs to foreign country via BenazirBhuttoInternationalAirport on Saturday.

According to TV channel report, Khalid a passenger onboard on a private Airline for Dubai was carrying 10 Kilogram heroin hidden in his luggage.

ANF officials recovered heroin costing approximately RS 100,000 from his luggage during checking.

A case has been filed under smuggling act in Pakistan law against the criminal, to further investigate the matter.
