A Pakistani national, who has been serving 14 years in a jail on terrorism charges in the United States, will be deported back to Pakistan, officials said.
Imran Farooq Mandhai was sentenced to 14 years in prison after he was arrested in February 2002 on charges of plotting bomb attacks on electrical power substations and a National Guard armoury.
After completing his sentence, Mandhai was turned over to immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents for deportation proceedings on March 9.
“Imran Farooq Mandhai was transferred to ICE custody March 9, 2015 from the Bureau of Prisons after completing his federal prison sentence. He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings,” an ICE spokesman said.
At the time of his arrest in 2002, Mandhai resided in Florida and attended the Darul Uloom Institute mosque.
This is the same mosque where al Qaeda notable and Mandhai associate Adnan el-Shukrijumah often prayed at.
