The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has spurned a proposal from the Punjab government and the Rawalpindi Development Authority to share the cost of the metro bus service to keep it floating between the twin cities.

Sources said that the cost would run into millions of rupees in terms of maintenance, repair and other related works to keep the bus service float, but the CDA high-ups have refused to be part of any agreement that will cost the civic agency millions of rupees, which is already reeling under financial strains.

The sources said that the CDA management argued that the provincial government did not take the civic agency into confidence before awarding the contract of the bus service to a Turkish company.

The sources said that if the civic agency had agreed to the proposal, it would have to pay around Rs50 million on a monthly basis in terms of maintenance and repair work, but it refused to own the project.

The sources said that the CDA has argued that if the civic agency has to be involved to run the project, the federal government should release it funds through the cabinet division.
