Pakistan is second on the list of nations that deem religion essential to morality, Pew Research Center revealed on Friday.
According to a survey conducted in 39 countries by the centre, the countries that topped the list were Indonesia and Ghana with 99 per cent believing God is essential to morality, while Egypt and Jordan came in at numbers three and four, respectively. Pakistan took the second position with 98 per cent.
The report, apart from showing that belief in God is central to having good values for Pakistanis, revealed that 53 per cent of Americans also consider religion to play an important role in their lives.
The US clearly stands out for its religiosity and optimism in both North America. In Europe, a majority of rich countries strongly believe in individualism as opposed to external forces that are uncontrolled, such as religion.
The study also states that people who are less educated and do not have a college degree tend to link mortality to religion more.
Pakistanis are also more upbeat than people in other wealthy European nations when asked how their day is going. Only 27 per cent UK described their day as a “particularly good day,” which was far lower than in Pakistan.
