Punjab likely to get its first woman governor: Nizami

Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami on Wednesday revealed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government was likely to appoint a woman as the next governor of the Punjab province.

Making the revelation in his talkshow DNA on Channel 24, Mr Nizami said that the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was earlier considering the name of senior columnist and former ambassador Attaul Haq Qasmi for the coveted position but according to his sources, the government had conveyed to Qasmi that he would not be appointed to the position.

“According to my information, the government is now considering appointing a staunch female PML-N leader to the position,” Mr Nizami told his co-host Chaudhry Ghulam Hussain.

It is highly likely that PML-N stalwart Zakia Shahnawaz would be named the Punjab governor in the next few days.
