Opposition parties agree to appoint JUI-F member as Senate’s deputy chairperson

Opposition parties have agreed to appoint a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) to the slot and Prime Minister will make the final decision, according to sources.

A meeting was held among the opposition party leaders with Senator Ishaq Dar in the chair, where it was decided that the position for deputy chairman would be given to a member of JUI-F. Opposition leader Khursheed Shah also announced that deputy chairman should be from Balochistan.

Newly-elected senators took an oath in the session this morning which was administered by Dar.

The session is likely to commence at 3 pm this afternoon in which they would be electing the Senate chairman and the deputy chairman.

Proposed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP),  Raza Rabbani’s nomination by the party was deemed acceptable by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday.

Khursheed Shah has said that he could have relations with Balochistan. SHAH telephones PM aprises him of consultations.
