Corps Commander hails Rangers for restoring peace to city

Karachi Corps Commander Lt General Naveed Mukhtar Thursday appreciated Sindh Rangers for their commitment to restoring normalcy in the metropolis.

During his visit to the Rangers headquarters, the corps commander said the operation in the city ought to be continued till terrorism was weeded out for good, said a Rangers statement.

Sindh Rangers Director General Maj Gen Bilal Akbar briefed the corps commander that an intelligence-based operation was conducted at ’90’ and surrounding localities on Wednesday.

Presence of alleged absconding criminals, target killers, anti-social elements and hard core criminals, along with heavy cache of arms was confirmed through the information shared with the Rangers, said Maj Gen Bilal Akbar.

He said Rangers also in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order arrested condemned-to-death absconders, involved in target killings, from the identified site while weapons, including those of prohibited bore, were retrieved from Khurshid Memorial Hall and surrounding offices as well as houses.

He said the arrested including 26 alleged target killers were presented before an Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) Thursday. The killers were involved in more than 50 murders, he said.

He said 27 of those arrested during Wednesday’s raid were said to be booked in different cases registered at various police stations across the metropolis.

Preventive detention and joint investigation of these individuals were also being carried out and they would be handed over to the city police, he added.

The Sindh Rangers DG directed his subordinates to ensure that no one may dare to create scare in any form or threaten the investigation officers (IOs) or court authorities, including judges, affecting dispensation of justice in any manner.

The arms recovered from Khursheed Memorial Hall and adjacent areas, along with criminals, were being handed to the police, the press release said.

The recovered arms included: G-3 Rifles (5); SMGs (23); LMG (2); 12 bore Pump Action (22); 7-MM Rifle (19); 8-MM Rifle (4); 223 bore Rifle (2); 22 Rifle (25); 222 Rifle (sniper rifle) (3); M-4 Rifle (sniper) (1); 30 bore Pistol(14); 9- MM Pistol (4); and Rifle Silence (6).

Five telescopes sight, 36 walkie-talkies and two bullet-proof jackets along with ammunition of different calibre and categories were also retrieved during the Wednesday’s raid.
