Chairman Special Parliamentary Committee on Election Reforms, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday urged the members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to attend meetings of the committee and perform their due national responsibility.
Briefing reporters after the committee meeting, the minister said like the PTI, all political parties wanted electoral reforms. The PTI members should also participate in the committee meetings, he said.
He said the report of sub-committee headed by Zahid Hamid was presented in Wednesday’s meeting. The sub-committee had already reviewed five out of six laws pertaining to holding of elections.
Dar said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had categorically stated that all ballot papers for the 2013 general election were printed by state-owned institutions under the supervision of Pakistan Army. Not a single ballot paper was printed from any private printing press, he added.
Dar said the sub-committee was not satisfied with the demonstration given by ECP regarding electronic voting mechanism.
