Water shortage in next few years in Pakistan: Khawaja Asif

Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif warned on Monday that the country might be heading towards drought.

Addressing a conference in Lahore, he stated that all plans for construction of water reservoirs were ruined due to politics.

He blamed the previous governments for not taking any measures to overcome the water shortage issue, and urged the nation to withdraw the habit of wasting water.Khawaja Asif vows to overcome electricity shortfall within upcoming three years.

Asif further added that the government is considering to build several small and big water reservoirs after consensus with all the stakeholders.Talking about water dispute with India, Khawaja Asif said Pakistan wants to resolve water issues with India.

“We will contest our case at the appropriate forum if India encroached upon our water rights”, he added.
