Islamabad High Court (IHC) upholds death sentence on Mumtaz Qadri under section-302 for killing former Governor Salman Taseer on Monday, according to sources.

The verdict was to be  announced by a division bench comprising Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi and Justice Shaukat Aziz.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had awarded death sentence to Qadri earlier for assassinating Taseer in broad daylight. IHC Chief Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman and Justice Mohammad Anwar had stayed Qadri’s death sentence.

The division bench had reserved its verdict over the appeal last month  after Advocate General of Islamabad, Mian Abdul Rauf, the prosecutor in the case, and Qadri’s counsel, including Lahore High Court’s former chief justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif and retired Justice Mian Nazeer – concluded their arguments.

  2. Justice must be done and this murder sent to gallows. In any case Qadri should hasten to meet his Maker, if he believes that he has rightly taken a human life.

  3. When he is executed it will show the fanatics that no one is above the law…for any reason…in particular for religious reasons..
