Snow, rain claim 22 in eastern Afghanistan


At least 22 people have been killed and nine others wounded in snow and rain-related incidents in eastern Nangarahar and Nooristan provinces of Afghanistan.

The incident that took place in Nangarahr province killed 10 members of the same family and injured another one.

Ahmadzia Abdulzai, spokesman for the governor of eastern Nangarhar province, says that due to the heavy rain fall in Dara-i-Noor District, rocks from the top of a nearby mountain rolled over a compound which killed 10 people and injured another one.

The incident took place in Shamal area where most of the houses are mud built.

According to another report, 12 people have lost their lives due to snow and rain-related incidents in eastern Nooristan province over the past week.

Officials say that around 150 homes were also destroyed in snow, rain-related incidents over the past week.
