The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has called for early adoption of the proposed Whistle Blowing Act to help eradicate corruption in government departments and the society at large.

While chairing a meeting at the NAB Headquarters on Saturday, NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that that the proposed Act had been forwarded to the Law and Justice Ministry for perusal before taking up in the Parliament.

He said that Bangladesh, India and South Africa have already made legislations by adopting Whistle Blowing Acts and such legislations have borne fruits in these countries.

The NAB chairman said that the Act would not only help eradicate corruption from government department and society but also encourage citizens to come forward as whistle-blowers to identify corruption and malpractices. He said that corruption, misuse of power, nepotism and favouritism were widespread in developing countries, which could only be stemmed through strong legislations.
