The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday accepted an application seeking action against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under Article 6.

A two member bench comprising Justice Ameenuddin and Justice Sohail Iqbal Bhatti, while hearing the initial argument, issued notices to the federal government, director general (DG) immigration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and inspector general (IG) of Punjab.

The petitioner’s lawyer stated that the notification issued by the prime minister for the appointment Maryam Nawaz as Chairperson of Youth Loan Scheme was unconstitutional. He further said that Maryam Nawaz’s name as per her CNIC and passport was Maryam Safdar whereas the notification issued was penned as Maryam Nawaz. The petitioner, therefore, pleaded the court to take action against the prime minister under Article 6.

The court admitted the case for hearing and summoned a response from both parties by May 20.
