Imran Khan says without PTI, two parties would have continued looting country, vows to bring change in GB system
Vowing to bring a “neutral umpire in politics”, concentrating on its fight for an “independent” Election Commission, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Saturday claimed that two major political parties would have continued looting the country if there was no PTI.
Addressing Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Youth Wing convention organised by PTI, Khan said that the people of GB were “most deprived” of their rights and its youth had decided to stand against the status quo. He claimed that majority of politicians in the Parliament did not even know about GB and the area away from the Center was “oft forgotten”.
Alleging that the appointment of governor in GB showed the “ill intention” of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Khan said he will curb the alleged rigging in elections together with the people of GB.
The PTI chief said democracy could not function without a local body system and both major political parties had failed to hold LB polls in their respective tenures.
“A change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will come after LB elections. People will start calling for freedom in various parts of the country if a new system is not introduced,” Khan said, adding that he will introduce a new system in GB after winning the regional council elections.
