City administration gets Rs200m for Lyari Expressway

Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Saturday that the federal government had released Rs 200 million for Lyari Expressway Project.

“The concerned organisations should make solid efforts to rehabilitate the halted construction work on the project,” he said while addressing a review meeting about practical steps on Lyari Expressway project.

Lyari Expressway Project Director Sarfraz Khan, relevant officers of Lyari Development Authority (LDA) and Malir Development Authority (MDA), engineers and additional deputy commissioners of district East and West were also present among others on the occasion.

The meeting decided that work regarding resettlement of the affectees would be completed by June 30, so that National Highway Authority could be provided way of right to complete the work that had been left out due to insufficiency of funds.

“The concerned deputy commissioners would finalise the list of the affectees within a week and the project director would get Lyari Expressway free for construction by Tuesday. The MDA and LDA would immediately provide land for the affectees,” the meeting decided.

The project was started in 2002. Its south bound one-way route has already been functioning from Sohrab Goth to Mauripur, while the work on northbound was affected on around 2 kilometre road due to non-availability of funds for the affectees. According to the project each affectee had to be given Rs50,000 cash and a 80 meter plot.
