The Senate was informed Friday that 19 out of 32 public sector entities which have been approved for privatization are profit-making entities.
Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Balighur Rehman told the House during question hour that out of the approved privatization programme certain public sector entities had already been partial privatised in transparent manner.
He said the concept behind the privatization was that the government had no business about being in business. The government should facilitate and provide infrastructure, he added.
Balighur Rehman told the House that there were 127 international non-governmental organisations which were presently working in the country receiving foreign contributions. He said only 19 international NGOs had been registered and the cases of remaining were under process.
To a question, he told the House that loan agreements of 5681.68 million dollars had been signed with multilateral organisations from June 5, 2013, to December 31, 2014. Out of total committed amount, 2821.79 million dollars were disbursed during the said period. He said on September 4, 2013, the IMF approved financing arrangements under Extended Fund Facility, a three year programme for 6.64 billion dollars. So far Pakistan has received 3.25 billion dollars under the programme and remaining amount will be evenly disbursed after quarterly reviews.
