Former Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) secretary Kanwar Dilshad has termed the presidential ordinance for change in election process on Senate seats of FATA “unconstitutional”.

Speaking to a news channel on Thursday, Dilshad said overnight issuance of the ordinance reflected government’s “ill intentions”.

“This ordinance is illegal, unconstitutional and ill-intentioned. It was issued on prime minister’s advice, so he is responsible for this illegitimate act,” he said.

The former ECP official demanded of the commission to take notice of the ordinance and issue a notice even to the prime minister.

“The ECP is an autonomous institution. It should reject the ordinance by exercising powers given under Article 218 of the Constitution. I hope that the Supreme Court will also reject it,” he asserted.
