Sindh govt reluctant in implementing apex committee’s decisions

Seemingly fearful of losing its authority, the Sindh government is yet to issue the notification of dividing the province into three security zones as per the decision of the Sindh Apex Committee.

The province had to be divided into Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur zones due to the security situation of Sindh, however Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Saturday told a press conference that no decision had yet been made in this regard.

He said that the provincial authorities are in contact with Rangers and intelligence agencies  and the matter of zonal apex committees would soon be settled.

The Sindh government has repeatedly drawn criticism over its alleged interference in different institutions, while the same issue cropped up during Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent meeting with provincial authorities and officials of the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in Karachi.

Sources said that the federal government has sought the removal of the Sindh chief secretary and police chief while the Sindh government is delaying the matter taking shelter of the 18th Amendment.

Four home secretaries have been shuffled in the province in just two months while the incumbent acting Home Secretary, Kabir Qazi, has already been suspended by the prime minister over corruption charges. But, the Sindh government – to everyone’s surprise – has not yet received the notification of Qazi’s dismissal.
