  • Opposition stages walkout from Senate session to protest alleged change in CPEC route

 

Protesting against the alleged change of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route, the opposition parties Friday staged a walk out from the Senate session.

Speaking on a point-of-order, Awami National Party (ANP)’s Senator Zahid Khan said that the original route of the proposed CPEC must not be changed. He said the government was arranging All Parties Conference (APC) for impeding the alleged horse trading in Senate elections, adding that it should take steps to resolve the issue of economic corridor.

Meanwhile, speaking on a point-of-order, Senator Haji Ghulam Ali asked the government to expedite the construction work on Lowari Tunnel.

Moreover, Mohsin Leghari said the prices of petroleum must not be increased.

Earlier, the report of Anti-Rape Laws (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2014 was presented in the House by Senator Ahmed Hassan on behalf of Standing Committee on Law and Justice Chairman Kazim Khan.

Nuzhat Sadiq presented the report of Privatization Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2013 on behalf of Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatization Chairperson Nasreen Jalil.

Senator Zahid Khan presented the report of the Standing Committee on Information Technology on a point-of-order raised by Senator Pervaiz Rashid on January 24, 2012 regarding a tender notice published in a newspaper on January 24, 2012 by the Pakistan telecommunication Authority (PTA) under the title “Invitation for Expression of Interest (EOI) with applications for auction of mobile cellular License/Spectrum (3G/4G/LTE)”. The report was presented on behalf of Muhammad Idrees Khan Safi.

Senator Hamza presented the first report of the Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony for the period from July 2012 to November 2014 on behalf of chairman of the committee Hafiz Hamdullah.

Senator Robina Khalid presented the report of Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat and Capital Administration and Development from July 2013 to December 2014 on behalf of its chairperson Senator Kulsum Parveen.
