Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Friday unanimously passed a joint resolution, drafted by the treasury benches and parliamentary leaders of all opposition parties, asking the federal government to make necessary measures for holding upcoming Senate elections in a fair and transparent manner.
The resolution was presented by Syed Jaffar Shah of Awami National Party (ANP), Jamat-e-Islami (JI)’s Inayatullah Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Mohammad Atif, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP)’s Sikandar Sherpao, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)’s Syed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotah and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F)’s Mufti Fazal Ghafoor.
The resolution stated that with Senate polls around the corner, all political parties were unanimous on the fact that the present procedure for the election of Senate members was defaming the members of the provincial assembly and also affecting political environment of the country.
Therefore, the provincial assembly is asking the provincial government to recommend to the federal government for taking all necessary and effective measures for holding Senate elections in fair and transparent manner, it added.
KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser put the resolution to vote and the House adopted it unanimously. Later, the speaker adjourned the proceedings of the house till March 10.
