Women’s economic empowerment has a crucial role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan, therefore we will cooperate with women entrepreneurs to meet this noble objective, a business leader said on Thursday.
While lauding the initiatives taken by the government for the empowerment of women, Chairman Chamber of Small Traders Dr. Shahid Rasheed Butt said, “We will jointly take steps to ensure capacity building and empowerment of women so that they can play their due role in the national development.”
He said that supporting entrepreneurship is the best way to empower women because it helps them realise their potential and fulfil their aspirations. Shahid Rasheed Butt who has also served as President ICCI said, “We will enrich the women by providing skills and support for future livelihood endeavours.”
Advancing women’s participation in all walks of life has become imperative without which a country cannot develop, the veteran business leader observed. He noted that women need improved access to education, healthcare and economic resources, so that culture of discriminations can be successfully eliminated.
The business community is committed to increasing the opportunities and wellbeing of women and consider gender equality as an integral part of sustainable development, he said. Women comprise more than 50 per cent of the total population but they have been forced into a systemic gender subordination, which has pushed Pakistan at the bottom of Global Gender Gap Report, which is unfortunate, he observed.
