CM approves free public Wi-Fi across Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif gave approval on Thursday for free public Wi-Fi facility across the province.

While presiding a high-level meeting, the Chief minister gave approval to various important measures for the promotion of Information Technology (IT) in the province.

According to the Khadim-e-Punjab Metro Wi-Fi Network Programme, free of charge Wi-Fi will be provided at important educational institutions, hospitals, railway stations, airports, metro bus routes and bus stands.

Sharif added that the Metro Wi-Fi Network Programme will begin from Multan, Rawalpindi and Lahore, and expand eventually.

He further stated that the purpose was to promote education in the province with the help of modern technology.

The Chief also approved a proposal to provide tablets to teachers of maths and science from classes 6 to 10.

Shahbaz added that the Punjab Information Technology Board has also started the programme of digitalisation of textbooks with the co-operation of Punjab Textbooks Board.

“Punjab government has digitalised all science and mathematics textbooks from Grade 6 to 10, while CDs of the books have also been produced,” he claimed.
