ISI chief holds crucial talks with CIA director

ISLAMABAD:

The head of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General (DG) Lt. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar on Wednesday  held crucial talks  with his Central Investigation Agency (CIA) counterpart John O. Brennan and other senior US officials on key intelligence and security matters in Langley.

The ISI Chief arrived at Washington DC on Sunday on his first-ever official visit abroad.

According to an official, the agenda of the meeting between the two chiefs included intelligence cooperation between Pakistan and the US, and the current regional security situation, citing to Afghanistan.

“The DG ISI proceeded to the US for an official visit. During the visit he will meet his counterparts and discuss issues related to intelligence,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

US has publicly acknowledged Pakistan’s quest for eradicating terrorist groups which include Afghanistan’s deadliest insurgent outfit, the ‘Haqqani Network’.

The lack of action against the HN had previously been a set-back in Pak-US ties. Relations are considerably better since recent months.

Pakistan army’s Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif also visited Washington in November last year.
