My volunteer experience

With busy lives it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous to you, your family, and your community. It can also help protect your mental and physical health. For me, it’s been an amazing feeling working as a volunteer in Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. I love spending time with cancer-stricken children there. Whenever I entered the ward, I could see the silent smile on their faces. The children were satisfied with the facilities being provided in the hospital. It was great fun colouring with them and playing board games. Although, some tended to get bored by just coloring, so different things were introduced as well. I remember an Afghani patient who did not get to complete his colouring because he had to get an injection half way through. I completed it for him and pinned the sheet on a board next to him which managed to bring a smile across his face.

SKMCH&RC offers hope to the cancer patients. The staff in the hospital is friendly with the patients that they feel it like a home. Competent staff, amazing facilities, especially free treatment, the drive and commitment of everyone, are the traits of SKMCH&RC. Volunteering there was the ultimate payback to me as I felt that I had come out as a much better person from there. I request everyone to find a cause and volunteer because not only will you be helping others, you will also be helping yourself as well.
